HOME COOKING HOLIDAY IN ORVIETO

19-23 MAY 2021

20-24 OCTOBER 2021

Come join Steve of The Beehive for a 5-day small-group cooking holiday in Orvieto, Italy this October.

Together we'll be making pasta, bread, pizza, and more all from scratch with local, seasonal ingredients. We focus on simple, healthy, zero-waste cooking that captures the essence of the Italian kitchen.

Our classes focus on Italian vegetarian cooking. If you’re a die-hard meat eater and can’t imagine going a week without meat, give it a try! It's only for 5 days!

Classes will be taking place in the center of Orvieto, a beautiful medieval hill town in the region of Umbria about an hour and a half north of Rome by train.

The week starts on Monday evening with a welcome apericena at a local winery. The rest of the time will be devoted to excursions and a daily class.

You don't have to be an experienced cook, but you do have to have the desire to want to learn or improve your cooking skills. With any free time, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the town, where everything is accessible on foot.

Orvieto is picture-perfect with cobblestone streets, medieval buildings, and friendly locals where in the evenings many residents come out for the passeggiata (stroll).

We'll wind up the week with a final meal with lots of food & wine, and enjoying the new friendships we will have made!

Steve and his wife Linda are the owners of The Beehive Hostel in Rome which they opened and have been running since May 1999.

Steve is a self-taught home chef who runs The Beehive’s cafe where we make our own sourdough bread, bagels, croissants, and other baked goods. He teaches small group pizza and pasta making classes at The Beehive or in private homes. At the moment, he teaches classes online.

Steve used to cook dinners in our cafe twice a week before the pandemic but now cooks once a week Deep Dining dinners creating an ever-changing menu based on the seasons and whatever strikes his mood.

"What impresses me the most are chefs who can improvise a dinner or lunch on short notice with almost nothing in the fridge, all without a big fuss. That to me is the essence of Italian cooking and what I hope you’ll take home with you."
